Location
Agde is a bustling town, located on the banks of the Hérault river that ends in the Mediterranean Sea a few kilometres further. The Étang de Thau, famous for its oyster producers and tastings, is on the South West. The town has a history dating back at least to Greek times, although the main feature of historical interest that you will see in the town now is the fortified cathedral. The long sandy beach nearby is perfect for building sandcastles and enjoying a refreshing swim or other nautical sports. Or you can walk or bike along the Canal du Midi, which goes all the way to Toulouse. Besides the oyster farms, another culinary excursion could be to La Maison Noilly-Prat in nearby Marseillan, France's first vermouth manufacturer.
