There are plenty of sports activities, tennis, football, rugby, bikes etc all very economical and very inviting.

Ski etc is 1 hour away in the Pyrenees, you can see the pic de midi from the garden.
Airports are Lourdes, Toulouse, Biaritz etc
Railway main station Tarbes

Spain is only 1h 15 mins away for great tapas or visit Biaritz, San Sebastion, etc

Main events near by are Tour de france, marciac jazz and a whole host of events to numerous to mention.
